I know I'm on the early side, but if you guys want to start your Easter
baking early and are looking for an Easter dessert, here it is!

What You Need
Vanilla cake mix
Vanilla frosting
Coconut flakes
Jelly beans
Food coloring
Eggs
Water
Vegetable oil
Equipment:
A whisk
A cupcake tray or 2
Cupcake liners, paper or aluminum will do
Measuring cups
A butter knife or spreader
A mixing bowl
2 smaller bowls
A large plate
Optional:
Pipe cleaners
A cake pan
What to Do
Step 1. Bake the cake according to the directions on the box.
Step 2. Place a cupcake liner into each spot on a cupcake tray and pour
the batter into each liner. You can also pour it into a cake pan and make
an Easter cake.
Step 3. Bake according to the directions on the box. Let the cupcakes or
cake cool completely before decorating so they don't fall apart.
Step 4. In a small bowl, add some coconut and color it green with food
coloring. This will represent the Easter grass. In another bowl, add some
jelly beans. These will represent eggs.
Step 5. Ice each cupcake. Then sprinkle on some coconut and then add
some jelly beans. If you are using pipe cleaners, bend the pipe cleaner into
a U shape. Stick one end of the pipe cleaner into each side of the
cupcake to represent handles. This is optional; you don't have to do this.
Step 6. If you decide to make a cake, decorate it the same, icing the
whole thing and then sprinkling coconut and jelly beans all over the cake.
You wouldn't add pipe cleaners to this.
Step 7. Bring these to your Easter get-together and watch them
disappear!
If you are using pipe cleaners, make sure you tell people to take them out
before they eat the cupcakes.

I've made a home made version of this minus the pipe cleaners and they're always a hit. Love the idea of using pipe cleaners as a basket handle though, thanks.

Yeah we used to use the pipe cleaners, and we stopped.

you might want to look at the first ine in the instructions. it says bake the cupcakes or cake according to package adirections. you shouldhave make.. otherwise thismakes no sense at all. my stepmom used to make this as a layer cake. she'd ice the top andsides and top of the ake and then put the coconut etc on the top. also malted milk eggs are great additions if you like these. oh yes and for the big cake you can put peeps on the eggs so the are waiting for the chicks to hatch.

How about using licorice instead of pipe cleaners for the basket loop for complete edibility? Although I don't know if they make licorice in Easter pastel colors...

hmm or those sour patch straws I think those are similarly bendable.

twizzlers are close enough. they also have that curly feeling like a basket handle has. great idea!!!

That's ok if the licorice isn't in Easter colors. You guys came up with
awesome ideas. Or you could use the small chocolate eggs wrapped in foil,
just unwrap them before using them. And if you do the big cake, you could
even use cadbury cream eggs. I didn't even think of using something edible.
I feel like the problem with that is pipe cleaners are sturdier, so they are
easier to stick into the cupcakes. Because licorice or sour punch straws are
flimsy so it would be a little harder to stick those in the cupcakes. And if you
can't get them in easter colors, you can put food coloring on them.

If Cadbury cream eggs were big enough and had a sort of soft marshmallow
chick inside kind of like a peep, you could call that Easter Balut. Balut is a
Filipino dish which is eggs which have been incubated until the chicks are nearly
hatched, then hard-boiled.
For this bit of trivia, thank me and thank Andrew Zimmern from Bizarre Foods.

Balut is vile = f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'f'ac'c'c'c'c'c'c'c'c'c'c'c'c'c'ct

Yes, they actually do make marshmallow eggs. They feel like a half egg.
There is chocolate on the outside and a marshmallow inside. They're close
enough to what you're talking about.
